Join our cutting-edge Machine Learning team at Atlassian as a Machine Learning Intern, where you'll have the opportunity to work on advanced machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly focusing on areas such as Large language models (LLMs), Generative AI, multi-modal Agents and Recommendation Systems. You’ll be part of a team that pioneers innovations to address complex real-world problems, developing state-of-the-art AI solutions that will ultimately drive impact for Enterprises.

This program is open to penultimate and final year PhD students. The internship dates are flexible.

Qualifications

About the Role:

As a PhD Machine Learning Intern, you will engage in both foundational research and practical applications, contributing to the development and evaluation of AI models used by millions of customers. You will collaborate with experienced researchers and engineers, gaining insights into industrial research and development, and advancing AI solutions for enterprise impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Research Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers on research experiments.

  • Manage and preprocess large datasets for machine learning model training.

  • Fine-tune LLMs for specific applications such as Generative AI features.

  • Evaluate and report on advanced ML algorithms.

  • Publish research in industry workshops and top-tier academic journals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science or a related field, with degree completion anticipated between January 2026 and June 2026.

  • Strong foundation in AI/ML, LLMs, and optimization techniques.

Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python programming and data management using libraries such as NumPy and Pandas.

  • Experience with large-scale datasets and ML frameworks like PyTorch.

  • Exposure to NLP and Computer Vision.
